A little bit of class with a ton of sass! Happy Wedding Wednesday!!!
Clients have said during their consultations that they didn’t book sooner because they had no idea what to wear! Well, i’m here to tell you that almost always…LESS IS MORE!!! Wearing nothing can be the best. A white sheet can be very classy, feminine, soft, and most definitely sensual. So don’t stress if you can’t figure out what to wear. Leave it to use to drape you in our finest. ;)
I am ashamed that I haven’t blogged a Tushie Tuesday in, well, way too freaking long. Part of being a Boudoir photographer means that I’m constantly working with women to get some pretty shmexy photos and being in school as well…doesn’t leave a buttload (ha! get it, butt) of time to blog. But i’m trying so hard to remember, so forgive me please! :)
HAPPY TUSHIE TUESDAY!!!
A lot of people ask me, “So, when YOUR friends get married, do they pick you as a Photographer or a Bridesmaid?” Fantastic question!
But that’s not a question that applies to Sondra. You see, we’ve been best friends since the beginning of puberty…and we sorted out this Bridesmaid thing a LONG time ago. I could be the number one photographer in the world and I still don’t think it would have affected her choice. Lol. And trust me, it didn’t!
This year I had the complete honor of being a bridesmaid for my best friend of 12 years. I want to first start by telling you a little about Sondra and me. We both met at school at the age of thirteen and over the years we have been in and out of contact, going to different life events and having different friends. I was there when Sondra was at her lowest, she was always there to pick up the phone when I was at mine. Despite having lived clear across the country from each other for a good chunk of our friendship, we have survived all the bad clothes, bad break-ups, terrible jobs, and life’s crossroad moments. We have been through it all as we’ve grown up. We have always kept in contact and our friendship has grown, she is no less my sister then I am hers. Now we’re like an old couple. Bert and Ernie. The warm combination of a snuggle sack and comfy slippers. I am so very, very lucky to have her in my life and now of course I have Michael (quite a lovely fella), and Luciana (my little lilly flower).
So back to my original point, there was no doubt that I would not only be in Sondra’s Wedding, but of course I was gonna be there to document it all. Duh! I mean this is me we’re talking about. Always taking on the impossible. But I do have to give MAJOR credit to my husband. If it hadn’t been for him, this seriously would have been impossible. Lol. So thank you my sexy love butt! :)
It was such an experience. Shopping for the bridesmaid dresses on the phone and through picture messaging. #thankyouJesus for technology! And all the planning (as I did the invitations). There was also help from another wonderful friend Jeni (of Jeni Jill Photography who I do have to thank for being willing to step aside and let me have this one day to document because you know…she lives down the street from Sondra and can be there for everything i’m not…but i’m not bitter. Haha!) also known to many (or maybe just me) as ‘Momma Henzilla’ (she will hate me for saying that because she doesn’t know that I referred to her as that when she would be able to smack sense back into Sondra for me. Lol.) I love you Jeni!!!
But this blog wouldn’t be complete without at least one, or two, or ninety photos of my beautiful friend on her wedding day. In the twelve years we have known each other she has always hated me taking her photo, but this day was different. This day, I was taking her WEDDING photos. Thank you so much Sondra for a wonderful day and for making me your photo taking Bridesmaid. I loved every minute of it. Although i’m not so sure I would purposely choose to wear a Bridesmaid dress and shoot a wedding at the same time again. Lol. I think I looked a bit silly trying to hold my bouquet in one hand and my camera in another. Not to mention the sprinting all over the place with my dress hitched up and just flowing because we HAD to wear chiffon. Haha! Shmily Sondra Mae. <3
Ooh la la!
Today I have a very special boudoir blog post for you. It features Kemis, an extremely stunningly gorgeous and confident chic woman who was an absolute pleasure to photograph.
As you can see, she is very easy on the eyes even in her Before photo but looks aren’t the only thing she’s go going on. She’s also an EXTREMELY talented coworker of mine. She’s the owner of C’est La Vie Photography. You should check her out for all your Family/Children needs!!! Oh yea, she’s that awesome. :D
When Kemis first came to me, one of the things we talked about was how she wanted to be photographed. As I tell every woman who comes to see me: This is YOUR dream photo shoot. I’m just helping to make it a reality. She informed me that what she was going for was anything but the mom look! She wanted to look back in 10 years and say, “Man, I was sexy and confident and free.” And I believe that we did just that!!! In Kemis’ words, "If we pulled it off anymore I’d be in Maxim! I felt so hot. Too cocky? I hope not. You just made me super confident."
Once Kemis was finished getting pampered and perfected, we began the shoot. She brought 3 changes of clothing for the session and I loved them all. But one was too hot to share, so we’ll have to keep that outfit in the vault.
I had so much fun with Kemis. She still calls me to gush about her photos and which one was her favorite and how she stares at them not believeing it’s her. Saying things like, “I loved it from the beginning. I have never felt so beautiful or comfortable in my life. And being in front of the camera instead of behind it was simply amazing with Shana.” and “My session was a long time coming. I had booked with another photographer for over a year but after meeting Shana I knew she was the one to bring the puma (cause I’m not yet a cougar) out of me.”
I know my ears sure were glad to hear she had such a phenomenal experience!
Before I go Miss K. had a few words for any women that’s nervous, or thinking twice about booking that session. She says, “I would tell every woman to do this for themselves you are only this young once!!! Do it!! Do it! Your husband will thank you!! My favorite part was going home. My confidence carried over and so did the makeup and my husband couldn’t keep his hands off me!”
So there you have it! Straight from the mouth of a mom of 2 under 5! Lol. I know, I know. I’m rambling. So without further adieu, I give you the foxy Miss. K!
It’s CRAZY how much my husband looks like his dad when his dad was his age! When my husband first showed me the picture on the right, I legit thought it was him until he informed me that the photo was almost 40 years old. He truly is his father’s son! <3 #twins #goodgenes #likefatherlikeson #fatherinlaw #followinginhisfootsteps #heraisedagoodman #handsome #myhusband #myheart
A pretty standard question that I ask clients post session is, “What was your favorite part of your session?” And I get a whole variety of answers but @kemistry101 answer is seriously the greatest and the most healtfelt I’ve ever read. I just had to share it!!! Every experience is different, but this is how I hope every woman leaves my studio: Feeling how they should…confident and gorgeous. #boudoirexperience #sexy #amazing #ilovemyclients #confidence #boudoirphotography #beautiful #southcarolinaboudoir #southcarolina #marathon
Hello again my lovelies!!!
I’ve got another gloriously beautiful wedding for you guys today! This gorgeous couple consists of Brittani Perkins and Jeremy Kermicle, two people that anyone would love to know. I mean seriously…these two share a love so genuine that it radiated from all over when I first met them!
Their wedding day was truly breathtaking! The weather was perfect! Their family were so kind to myself and my assistant Kemis. The wedding was at Mint Springs Farm in Nolensville, TN and the reception was both held at and catered by Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q. The venue and the restaurant were extremely fairytale-esque and perfectly country with plenty of personality and tiny quirks…much like my couple. Haha! :)
The bride’s dress was seriously gorgeous, too. And I’m not just saying that! But believe it or not…Brittani admitted to me that she absolutely HATES wedding dresses! Yup. I gasped too. Lol. She thinks that they are just terribly over priced and gaudy! Plus she didn’t want to wear the “typical dress”, which I absolutely understand. She had originally planned to buy a dress from American Eagle that was $25.00 until she went shopping with her mom who was dead set on her having “the dress of her dreams”. It only took her going to one store (Bridal Wearhouse in Louisville, KY) to find her dream dress. In her words, "When I began shopping I knew what I wanted, simple and vintage with lace. I tried on 4 dresses and decided on the dress I wore. It was exactly what I was looking for, very vintage, beautiful lace and the most gorgeous buttons I have ever laid my eyes on! Sexy, Simple and Significant! The dress was not something of any importance to me when I began to plan my wedding, but when I tried my dress on, I realized just how much it meant to me to find "the dress of my dreams". My dress was certainly that dress!" I totally agree.
We had a lot of fun taking wedding pictures, as well. They decided to not see each other until Brittani was walking down the aisle. The emotion I captured on Jeremy’s face was truly priceless! That’s right guys…he cried the instant he saw her. <3 Ok, ok. I admit it, Kemis and I shed a tear too when we saw that. What can I say?! We’re suckers for true love.
I usually add my Brides to my personal Facebook page so that i’m able to tag them once I put up previews, but Brittani tags me more then I tag her. And it’s always connected to the cutest little phrases she comes up with! Like, "Everyone wants to know where I found ‘the worlds most talented artist’. I just smile, and tell them in the heart of TN, on a little Piece of Py." Lol. Or something like, "Our Piece of Py experience was better than any slice of cake.". Have I mentioned how much I love this girl?! :D But when I sincerely asked her how her experience with us was, this is what she had to say, "Shana & Kemis were wonderful! I have had nothing but compliments on my photos! They are so beautiful that I have had many neighbors say that my photos look like they are paintings. Thank you to both lovely ladies for making one of the most of the most special days of my life both enjoyable and memorable!"
Okay, let’s get to more pictures! Mr. and Mrs. Kermicle were such a delight to work with and I wish them both so many, many wonderful years to come!!!

My business is mainly built on the fact that we here at Portrait Couture by Shana work with ALL women, of various shapes/sizes/walks of life, to accept themselves as they are, right now, without having to “fix” something about themselves first. And make no mistake – I am VERY passionate about that, and take it very seriously! About a month or two ago, a member in a Boudoir forum group i’m in on Facebook posed a selfie challenge to all of us Photographer members. To put ourselves in front of the camera but to really see ourselves for who we are. For the last 60 days as week by week went by, I watched everyone else participate and post their selfies within the group. But not me. I was to focused on my flaws.
“I hate my dry hair.”
"I hate the scars on my stomach from too many surgeries."
"I hate my squinty eyes."
"My face is too round."
"My nose is too big."
Then something happened…I got really, really sad. I couldn’t find one thing about myself that I truly liked. Then I thought about my clients and how I watch woman after woman come to their consultations and are way too focused on their perceived “flaws” rather then their real beauty! Yes, I will admit that this thought definitely changed my perspective on selfies – previously I didn’t really care for them. I see a different side to them now.
I have had a “Boudoir-esque” session earlier this year but I admit that was done mainly for my clients. My selfies…this was done for ME. My own personal challenge to see myself as pretty for a change. To know that I am Enough! It is natural to compare yourself to other women, but is that really where this starts? Does it start with moms, passing this onto their daughters? The media? The skewed version of “sexuality” that our girls see every day? Where does the confidence to accept yourself as you are, regardless of others’ opinions, sprout from?
CONFIDENCE. Now THAT is an amazing skill, an asset that every girl needs to have. Because let’s be real – life can suck. People can be mean sometimes, but being able to deal with some crappy situations and not internalize everything, and let it affect your self worth, is a skill that will be valuable for life.
The real question is, how can we make that happen?
Being confident doesn’t mean that negative situations won’t affect us. There are some situations that no matter how confident you might be, they will still tear you apart. But baby steps begin with you. They begin with me.
10 yrs later (11 now). This is the short one that I have been stuck with. I even have the pleasure of calling her my best friend. <3 From or lowest of lows, to the highest of highs…she been here to cuss me out when I need it, hear me cry when I couldn’t take it, and laugh with me when all we could was just give in to the crazy that has become our lives. She’s getting married soon, and I couldn’t be happier for her…even though I told her to run and never turn back. Lol. But she’s pregnant…so waddling made things difficult and she decided to settle down. Haha! I love you sister. And I can’t wait to accept Mike as my brother! Here’s to another 50 yrs of having to deal with my shit! :) #mybullshitisyourbullshit #iloveher #bestfriends #weareold #unbreakablebond #freedomvillageusa #newyork #boobbuddies #myoriginalbabymomma #thickandthin #oreo #shesreallyathug
