Hello again my lovelies!!!
I’ve got another gloriously beautiful wedding for you guys today! This gorgeous couple consists of Brittani Perkins and Jeremy Kermicle, two people that anyone would love to know. I mean seriously…these two share a love so genuine that it radiated from all over when I first met them!
Their wedding day was truly breathtaking! The weather was perfect! Their family were so kind to myself and my assistant Kemis. The wedding was at Mint Springs Farm in Nolensville, TN and the reception was both held at and catered by Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q. The venue and the restaurant were extremely fairytale-esque and perfectly country with plenty of personality and tiny quirks…much like my couple. Haha! :)
The bride’s dress was seriously gorgeous, too. And I’m not just saying that! But believe it or not…Brittani admitted to me that she absolutely HATES wedding dresses! Yup. I gasped too. Lol. She thinks that they are just terribly over priced and gaudy! Plus she didn’t want to wear the “typical dress”, which I absolutely understand. She had originally planned to buy a dress from American Eagle that was $25.00 until she went shopping with her mom who was dead set on her having “the dress of her dreams”. It only took her going to one store (Bridal Wearhouse in Louisville, KY) to find her dream dress. In her words, "When I began shopping I knew what I wanted, simple and vintage with lace. I tried on 4 dresses and decided on the dress I wore. It was exactly what I was looking for, very vintage, beautiful lace and the most gorgeous buttons I have ever laid my eyes on! Sexy, Simple and Significant! The dress was not something of any importance to me when I began to plan my wedding, but when I tried my dress on, I realized just how much it meant to me to find "the dress of my dreams". My dress was certainly that dress!" I totally agree.
We had a lot of fun taking wedding pictures, as well. They decided to not see each other until Brittani was walking down the aisle. The emotion I captured on Jeremy’s face was truly priceless! That’s right guys…he cried the instant he saw her. <3 Ok, ok. I admit it, Kemis and I shed a tear too when we saw that. What can I say?! We’re suckers for true love.
I usually add my Brides to my personal Facebook page so that i’m able to tag them once I put up previews, but Brittani tags me more then I tag her. And it’s always connected to the cutest little phrases she comes up with! Like, "Everyone wants to know where I found ‘the worlds most talented artist’. I just smile, and tell them in the heart of TN, on a little Piece of Py." Lol. Or something like, "Our Piece of Py experience was better than any slice of cake.". Have I mentioned how much I love this girl?! :D But when I sincerely asked her how her experience with us was, this is what she had to say, "Shana & Kemis were wonderful! I have had nothing but compliments on my photos! They are so beautiful that I have had many neighbors say that my photos look like they are paintings. Thank you to both lovely ladies for making one of the most of the most special days of my life both enjoyable and memorable!"
Okay, let’s get to more pictures! Mr. and Mrs. Kermicle were such a delight to work with and I wish them both so many, many wonderful years to come!!!

My business is mainly built on the fact that we here at Portrait Couture by Shana work with ALL women, of various shapes/sizes/walks of life, to accept themselves as they are, right now, without having to “fix” something about themselves first. And make no mistake – I am VERY passionate about that, and take it very seriously! About a month or two ago, a member in a Boudoir forum group i’m in on Facebook posed a selfie challenge to all of us Photographer members. To put ourselves in front of the camera but to really see ourselves for who we are. For the last 60 days as week by week went by, I watched everyone else participate and post their selfies within the group. But not me. I was to focused on my flaws.
“I hate my dry hair.”
"I hate the scars on my stomach from too many surgeries."
"I hate my squinty eyes."
"My face is too round."
"My nose is too big."
Then something happened…I got really, really sad. I couldn’t find one thing about myself that I truly liked. Then I thought about my clients and how I watch woman after woman come to their consultations and are way too focused on their perceived “flaws” rather then their real beauty! Yes, I will admit that this thought definitely changed my perspective on selfies – previously I didn’t really care for them. I see a different side to them now.
I have had a “Boudoir-esque” session earlier this year but I admit that was done mainly for my clients. My selfies…this was done for ME. My own personal challenge to see myself as pretty for a change. To know that I am Enough! It is natural to compare yourself to other women, but is that really where this starts? Does it start with moms, passing this onto their daughters? The media? The skewed version of “sexuality” that our girls see every day? Where does the confidence to accept yourself as you are, regardless of others’ opinions, sprout from?
CONFIDENCE. Now THAT is an amazing skill, an asset that every girl needs to have. Because let’s be real – life can suck. People can be mean sometimes, but being able to deal with some crappy situations and not internalize everything, and let it affect your self worth, is a skill that will be valuable for life.
The real question is, how can we make that happen?
Being confident doesn’t mean that negative situations won’t affect us. There are some situations that no matter how confident you might be, they will still tear you apart. But baby steps begin with you. They begin with me.
10 yrs later (11 now). This is the short one that I have been stuck with. I even have the pleasure of calling her my best friend. <3 From or lowest of lows, to the highest of highs…she been here to cuss me out when I need it, hear me cry when I couldn’t take it, and laugh with me when all we could was just give in to the crazy that has become our lives. She’s getting married soon, and I couldn’t be happier for her…even though I told her to run and never turn back. Lol. But she’s pregnant…so waddling made things difficult and she decided to settle down. Haha! I love you sister. And I can’t wait to accept Mike as my brother! Here’s to another 50 yrs of having to deal with my shit! :) #mybullshitisyourbullshit #iloveher #bestfriends #weareold #unbreakablebond #freedomvillageusa #newyork #boobbuddies #myoriginalbabymomma #thickandthin #oreo #shesreallyathug
I think every photographer has that one image where they just stare at it for hours thinking, “Is that image really mine?! Did I seriously create that???” I think I’ve FINALLY had that moment!!! I got it right. What was in my head…is on my screen. Colors are correct, posing on point, lighting is phenomenal, that “get over here” look in his eyes…everything just perfect. Yea, I’m proud of myself. <3
Q) What is a boudoir marathon?
A) A boudoir marathon is a weekend long boudoir party with Shana in either Clarksville, TN all the way to Nashville, TN. You book a time slot for your hair, makeup, & photo shoot. You can arrive as early as you’d like before your slot time. Shana will be at the room to open it at 7:00 am both mornings. On staff we will have a Hair/Makeup Artist (Galilee or Samantha), Photographer (Shana), and even a wardrobe person will be on staff (usually me, Shana). If you have any questions or can’t decide on your outfit selections show up a bit early so that we can help you out.
Boudoir photography is a great gift to yourself or your loved one. We get busy in our day to day lives and forget what it’s like sometimes to feel beautiful (read Shana’s ABOUT). A boudoir session pampers you and let’s you truly feel like the beautiful person you are. When is the last time you’ve done something for yourself? When’s the last time you’ve felt 100% happy with the way you look? Let’s get this boudoir party started and start building confidence one woman at a time!
Q) How do I contact you to book?
A) Click HERE for our contact page or email Shana: email@example.com
Q) Why book during a marathon instead of a one on one shoot?
A) In short, you get your shoot on a weekend, in a FUN atmosphere and save quite a bit since we’re booking many shoots in one day. Long answer: There are pluses to both. If you book during a marathon you are getting a fun atmosphere and you have the option to book back to back with some of your friends. Shana only takes shoots M-F but blocks off a full weekend for her boudoir marathons. So you’re able to book during the weekend. We also will have snacks/refreshments, and some girly movies playing while you wait. Booking a one on one shoot means that you will have the whole room to yourself and have a more relaxed atmosphere instead of an upbeat “boudoir party” atmosphere. Also if you book one on one Shana is there with you every step of the way.
Q) How much is it to book my slot for the marathon?
A) $250. A $100 deposit is due upon booking. You can pay the rest however you feel comfortable as long as it is paid in full on the day of your session. Our gift to you is our Little Black Book. If you’d like a detailed list before hand please email Shana – firstname.lastname@example.org
Q) How should I arrive for my shoot? What all should I bring?
A) Once you book your time slot Shana will email you an info email full of tips on how to prep for your shoot, what to bring, and how to arrive. But since you’re already here reading this I’ll sum it up. Bring 1-3 outfits (although you will only have enough time for 1 or 2 of them), arrive with a clean face/hair washed and down, and get a good night’s sleep!!! Drink lots of water leading up to the shoot (for more info email Shana to book your time slot – email@example.com)

Started from the bottom now i’m kinda-sorta almost here! Haha. I bet you looked at the photo above and instantly went, "Whaaaaaat?!" in your minion voice. It’s ok to admit it, I know I did! That’s 3 years of progress for ya. :D
I have been asked numerous times by clients, inquirers, and friends if I have always been as grand at Photography as I am today. Being me, my usual response would be to laugh and mutter something sarcastic like, “C’mon, this is me we’re talking about! I don’t make mistakes.” HA!!! That’s a lie and a half.
Honestly, I sucked majorly the first time I picked up a camera. I had no idea what SOOC (straight out of camera) stood for, let alone what it was. I knew NOTHING about Aperture, or Depth Of Field. Didn’t know a Prime Lens from a Telephoto lens. Knew zilch about light other then ‘there’s a sun in the sky, use it!’ Lol. And don’t even get me started on what little I knew about flash, and how I thought that the “M” on my dial stood for “Master” and that it was a level i’d never achieve. Smh. Master?! Seriously Shana?
Yea, I genuinely sucked and Photoshop was Mandarin for all I knew (at times it still is). I seriously believed that the finished photographs from a Photographer I admired came out of the camera that way. Sure, go ahead and laugh again! I still do. :)
While I know that many people continue on with Photography because they love it so…truthfully for me, Photography wasn’t a passion in the beginning the way it is for me now. It was simply a skill that I was envious of and I wanted to learn it…hoping that I would one day be a master at it. Although I quickly learned that being a master of Photography is just as elusive as trying to catch steam in your hand. Lol. It just doesn’t work that way because it’s ever changing!
Every photo you see on this blog post was my very first session of that kind (on the left/top), and my most recent session (on the right/bottom). As you can see, I was NOT perfect. No way, no how! Underexposed photos, yellow/blue/orange people, colorcasts gone wrong, details lost, no composition, etc…the list goes on! Sheesh, I’m still not perfect. I have soooooo much more to learn. I honestly cringe when I go back and see how bad I seriously was. I kind of wanna poke myself in the eye. Lol. I said KIND OF people!!! But really, when I go back over my work and see how far i’ve come, I am nothing but grateful. I am grateful for the people who took their time to show me what I did not know. Speak of their knowledge to show me what I needed to see. Whether it was in person, over Facebook, through a phone call, or a workshop, they helped! Now other photographers come to ME and ask for help. Why are you coming to me for advice?! I don’t know nothing! Don’t you see how much more I need to learn?! IT FREAKS ME OUT!!! Lol. I’m not a teacher in the slightest, but I do admit that it is IMMENSELY humbling and bit of a wake-up call to myself.
Me: What’s up?
Self: You are good at what you do. :)
Me: Thanks self. 3 years later, I think i’m finally starting to believe it…
What i’m most grateful for are my past, present, returning, and future clients. All who have hired me and trusted me to capture their memories. Allowed for me to become part of their families. Clients who became and still remain friends. I’m grateful for your laughs, your happy tears, your honesty, your trust, your loyalty (especially when I raised my prices). I have had my fair share of super high ups and majorly low downs. I thought of quitting, smashing my camera, and never looking back! But i’m still standing…still photographing. So not only is this post to show my worst and now my best, but it’s also to say THANK YOU!!! Because even back then when I thought I WAS the best I could be, YOU all helped me to believe that I was the best I could be. And that only made me want to be better. I admit that I am nowhere near where I would like to be with my Photography, but thank you Jesus I am not where I once was. :)
Shout-out to the people who have helped the most to get me where I am today
“Motion creates emotion.” according to Tony Robbins. I 100% agree. I’m a big believer in the notion that how you move is how you feel. Sensuality is in a woman’s attitude. She may be a beauty on the surface, but no amount of visual perfection can create sensuality and sex appeal. I know, I know. Being confident is easier said then done, but the foundation of confidence is just a woman enjoying herself and her body… <3
